Multi-Day Digital Detox

Unhurried island time, at your pace

The people who ask for this rarely describe a holiday. They describe a year: a job that ate the evenings, a phone checked before their eyes were properly open, a sense that the last twelve months arrived as one undifferentiated blur. What they want isn’t sights. It’s the feeling of a day being long again.

What the quiet is actually like

Most of the archipelago has weak signal or none, so being unreachable here isn’t a rule anyone enforces — it’s just the condition of the place. That lands differently than people expect. The first afternoon is often restless: a hand reaching for a pocket that has nothing useful in it, several times an hour. By the second morning that stops, and what replaces it is the part nobody can sell you in advance — hours that don’t get chopped into fifteen-minute pieces.

The day with nothing in it

The format is built around one deliberately empty day in the middle. No boat time, no pickup, no activity to be ready for. Kayaks and paddleboards are there to use whenever you feel like it rather than at an assigned slot, and the honest truth is that plenty of guests never touch them and lie in a hammock instead. That’s a successful day here, not a wasted one.

Before you disappear

Two practical things people forget. Tell someone at home the exact dates you’ll be unreachable, so silence doesn’t get read as trouble. And bring a way to tell the time and a way to charge — outlets are not a given on every island, and once your battery dies your phone stops being even a clock.

Frequently asked questions

What if there’s an emergency at home while I’m offline?

Plan for it before you leave rather than counting on signal. Leave your dates and the operator’s contact with whoever might need to reach you, and set expectations that replies will be slow to nonexistent. Bear in mind, too, that the islands have no clinic or pharmacy — getting back to Panama City means the same road and boat you came in on.

How long can I stay?

Three nights is the maximum for any overnight booking, so four days is the longest version of this. It’s a deliberate limit rather than an arbitrary one: supplies, water and cabin turnover on small islands are organised around short stays.

Is there electricity to charge my phone?

Don’t count on it. Power on most islands is limited and not distributed to every cabin, which is why we suggest a power bank. It’s also why plenty of people leave the phone switched off entirely and treat the battery as a reserve.

Am I going to be bored?

Probably, for a while — and that’s the mechanism, not a fault in the plan. Bring a book, a notebook, something to do with your hands. Guests who arrive expecting entertainment tend to struggle on day one and then describe day two as the best day of the trip.

What if I change my mind and want something scheduled?

Then say so on the island. An extra island tour can usually be added during a longer stay, and the guide can tell you the same morning whether it’s possible. The empty day is an offer, not an obligation.
