VIP Day Tour

Our most-booked tour — snorkeling, a Guna community visit, and more

most popularsnorkelingguna culturecouples

This is the tour most first-time visitors end up choosing, and it’s easy to see why: it takes everything solid about the Classic day and adds the two things people ask for most — real guided snorkeling and a genuine visit to a Guna community.

What makes VIP different (not just a name)

Not every operator is upfront about this, so we will be: VIP is a different route, not a higher price on the same one.

  • ✅ Everything in the Classic Day Tour — transport, the Natural Pool, lunch with a drink
  • Guided reef snorkeling, usually over the shipwreck at Perro Chico
  • ✅ A stop at a Guna community, where molas are made and sold by the artisans themselves
  • ✅ More stops overall than the Classic itinerary
  • ⛔ Snorkel gear isn’t guaranteed as standard — bring your own if you’re particular about fit
  • ⛔ Guna Yala community entry tax (paid separately, in cash — see our FAQ for the amount)

The shipwreck snorkel

The wreck off Perro Chico is the single most requested stop in the archipelago. A sunken vessel now covered in coral growth sits in water shallow enough that complete beginners manage it comfortably, usually a short swim from the boat, with schools of reef fish over it and the occasional ray resting on the sand nearby. Visibility is normally excellent. Your guide points out where the bigger fish tend to sit.

The Guna community stop

This is a working village, not a staged performance. You’ll see molas — the layered appliqué panels Guna women are known for — being made and sold directly by the artisans, and you’ll get a look at how daily life is organised in an autonomous territory. Bring small bills: nothing in Guna Yala takes cards.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the Classic tour?

The Classic covers one island plus the Natural Pool and nothing more. VIP adds guided snorkeling over the shipwreck reef, a Guna community stop, and more stops across the day. It’s a different itinerary, not a different price tag on the same route.

Do I need snorkeling experience?

No. The wreck lies in shallow water and the session is guided, which is exactly why it works for first-timers. Life jackets are mandatory for everyone on the boats, and you can watch from the surface without diving down at all.

Is snorkel gear provided?

Sometimes, but it isn’t guaranteed and shared gear won’t necessarily fit you well. If a good seal on the mask matters to you, bring your own — it’s the single easiest thing to get wrong on the day.

Can I buy a mola directly from the artisan?

Yes, and it’s one of the better reasons to do this tour. Carry small cash bills; there are no ATMs and no card machines anywhere in the comarca.

Is it OK to take photos in the community?

Photograph the place freely, but ask before photographing people — you’re a guest in someone’s village, and asking first is usually welcomed rather than refused.

Is the VIP tour suitable for children or older travellers?

Children are welcome and travel with the group as normal. San Blas is not recommended for pregnant travellers, people with back or hip conditions, or anyone whose health could be affected by a long boat ride, and the trip is not wheelchair accessible.
